Rock Meadow is an affordable housing development for Severn Vale Housing and Gloucester Rural Housing, in Redmarley, Forest of Dean. The site is classed as a ‘rural exception site’ meaning the land would not normally be used for housing but was an exception due to the need the Parish had as well as helping the rural community to prosper.
The development consists of:
- 4 x three-bedroom houses
- 4 x two-bedroom houses
- 2 x one-bedroom flats
Due to the historic nature of the village, the development was appropriately designed so it wouldn’t have any overbearing impact on the existing 17th-century homes. Due to the current nature of the site half of the existing land was kept by the landowner to use as a grazing field. The use of hedgerows and trees also kept the impact on the landscape to a minimum.
Work on the development commenced in November 2013 and was completed and handed over to the new tenants in July 2014.
